Allegations of Abuse

Dr. Zhi Alan Cheng, a 35-year-old gastroenterologist from Astoria, pleaded guilty to multiple counts of rape and sexual abuse for assaulting acquaintances and unconscious female hospital patients.

Cheng was initially indicted on a 50-count charge in August 2023. In March 2024, additional charges were brought after another victim, a hospital patient, came forward.

He admitted to filming the sexual abuse of unconscious victims between 2020 and 2022, both in his apartment and at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital. Cheng pleaded guilty to seven counts related to rape and sexual abuse and entered an Alford plea to one count of sexual abuse.

Cheng was arrested on December 27, 2022, after a female acquaintance discovered videos of herself and other women being sexually assaulted by Cheng.

A search of Cheng’s apartment uncovered digital storage devices containing videos of him allegedly abusing unconscious female patients and acquaintances. Authorities also seized various drugs, including fentanyl, ketamine, cocaine, LSD, MDMA, and medical sedation drugs such as propofol and sevoflurane.

Cheng’s medical license has been suspended by the state, and he has been held without bail since his arrest.
