Father Norbert Maday

Father Norbert J. Maday was ordained a Roman Catholic priest for the Archdiocese of Chicago in 1964. He served at St. John of God, St. Leo, St. Louis de Montfort in Oak Lawn, St. Bede the Venerable, Our Lady of the Ridge in Chicago Ridge, and St. Jude the Apostle in South Holland. He was convicted of child sexual assault in 1994, sentenced to 20 years in prison, and laicized in 2007. He died in March 2019.

What the Records Show

According to the Illinois AG’s 2023 Report, Maday allegedly sexually abused 72 children across multiple Illinois parishes during his ministry from 1964 to 1992.
In June 2021, GGH secured an $880,000 settlement with the Archdiocese of Chicago on behalf of two former altar boys who alleged Maday sexually abused them at St. Bede the Venerable Parish from 1977 to 1983 — when they were 10 and 13 years old.
In 2007, Maday was laicized.
In 1994, Maday was convicted of child sexual assault for abusing two teenage boys during a 1986 parish youth retreat in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
