GGH is leading legal action against Northwestern University, with former quarterback Lloyd Yates seeking damages over widespread hazing and abuse in the school’s athletic programs.
ESPN reported that accounts of hazing came from men and women across multiple Northwestern sports, including the football, baseball, and softball programs. Attorneys involved said they represented 15 people at the time and had been in contact with dozens of former athletes, most of them football players. Former running back Warren Miles Long described a team culture in which hazing and sexual violence were widespread.
A further lawsuit was filed on behalf of an anonymous player, naming the university, its trustees, former head coach Pat Fitzgerald, and former athletic director Jim Phillips among the defendants. Northwestern also announced reviews into its athletic department as the allegations mounted.
