The suit, filed in Cook County Circuit Court on behalf of Jane Doe 300, alleges NorthShore Medical Group and Swedish Covenant Hospital concealed complaints about Fabio Ortega for years — Ortega pleaded guilty in 2021 to abusing two patients, while GGH says it has identified more than 300 alleged victims dating back to 1989. Most were Latina women who spoke little English and were referred to Ortega because he spoke Spanish, a pattern GGH attorneys say shows how minority patients are silenced when they complain. The firm says additional lawsuits are coming.
