GGH Partner Steven Vanderporten filed a lawsuit in June 2026 in Cook County Circuit Court against KinderCare Learning Companies, Crème de la Crème Glenview, and a former teacher, alleging that the daycare concealed surveillance footage showing a second child was also allegedly physically attacked by a staff member. According to the complaint, on February 24, 2026, the daycare informed a family that their four-year-old son had allegedly been grabbed by the hair, lifted off the ground by his neck and shoulder, and thrown face-first onto a cot. The family was shown surveillance footage of the alleged incident, and the daycare reported it to DCFS and Glenview Police. However, the lawsuit alleged that a second camera had also captured the same teacher allegedly pulling the hair of the son’s twin sister, striking her, and throwing a shoe at her head — during the same incident. According to the complaint, the family was never told about what allegedly happened to their daughter. The lawsuit claimed the family first learned of the alleged abuse of their daughter nearly two months later when Glenview Police contacted them and showed them additional footage that had allegedly been in the daycare’s possession since the day of the incident. The complaint further alleged that daycare personnel failed to report the incident involving the daughter to DCFS despite mandatory reporting obligations under Illinois law, and that a message sent by the daycare to all parents only referenced concerns involving “a child” without disclosing that multiple children were allegedly involved. Vanderporten stated that no parent should have to question whether they are being told the full truth when it comes to the safety of their children. The lawsuit asserted claims including negligence, negligent hiring and supervision, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and fraudulent concealment.
